Songkran is the Thai New Year’s national holiday and is celebrated from April 13th to April 15th. It was inscribed into UNESCO’s List of Intangible Cultural Heritage on 6 December 2023.
Similar to the Chinese zodiac, there are twelve animals in the Thai zodiac representing each year in a twelve-year cycle with this Thai New Year being the Year of the Serpent/Dragon. For this reason, we have selected the above image, painted and designed by artist Sanan Rattana, Royal Society of Thailand, with two nagas (divine serpents) flanking the image.
Wishing you a Happy Thai New Year “Songkran 2024”
